Your cruise stateroom is your retreat after a day of adventure — but space is tight, so packing smart is key. Stateroom essentials are the little extras that make a big difference so you can focus on the sunsets, not the clutter.
“Cruise-Approved” Power Bar
(non-surge protected)
There never seem to be enough outlets in a cruise cabin! Don’t bring just any power strip from home though – surge-protected power strips pose potential fire and electrical hazards and will be confiscated. Instead, look for a “cruise approved” (or “non-surge protected”) power strip.
Multi-Plug Adapter
Cruise cabins often have just one or two outlets, which isn’t enough for phones, tablets, and other gadgets. A multi-plug adapter lets you charge multiple devices at once without the need for bulking power blocks, so you’re always powered up and ready for the day.
Magnets
Did you know that most cruise cabin walls are metal? Magnetic hooks and clips will help you make the best use of the space. Hang swimsuits to dry, hats, lanyards, binoculars, even purses or light backpacks. Clip notices, schedules, receipts, notes for cabin-mates on the walls to free up valuable table/desk space. Here are a couple of styles that have served us well.
Odor Nuetralizer
Trust me on this! Cruise cabin bathrooms are small and smells can linger and spread through the cabin. A good odor neutralizer spray will eliminate the smell, not cover it up. (If you are flying, decant larger bottles into a travel-size pump bottle.)
Packing Cubes
Pack smart to stay organized and make unpacking a breeze! Sort your clothes by type or by outfit. When you get to your cabin just unzip the packing cubes and place them in your drawer or shelf. When we travel as a family each person has their own color so we can easily see what belongs to who.
Stationary and Pens
Ok, hear me out! Texting and even cruise line messaging apps don’t work very well at sea. When we need to leave a message for a cabin-mate it helps to have a pad of post-it notes and a Sharpie! A highlighter to mark the daily events we don’t want to miss, and a few “Thank-You” cards for crew members always make their way into our bag as well.
Pharmacy Kit
Sure, you can get Advil, band-aids, or cold medicine on board or at port, but you will be paying a LOT for it, and they might not have your preferred brands. When we cruise I pack a small toiletries kit with: headache medicine, cold medicine, Benadryl, chewable Pepto, motion sickness relief, sun-burn cream, and a small dental repair kit. It all fits in a small toiletries kit and we know we have anything we need should anyone feel unwell.
Digital Alarm Clock
Cruises often involve crossing time zones, which can make adjusting your schedule tricky. A digital alarm clock helps you easily set the correct time, so you’re always on track for shore excursions and activities.
Desk Fan
Cruise cabins can get stuffy, especially without good airflow or if you prefer cooler air at night. A small desk fan helps circulate air, keeps you comfortable, and can even double as white noise for better sleep. It’s a simple way to make your cabin feel more like home!
When getting ready to set sail, don’t overlook your toiletry bag — it’s the key to staying fresh and comfortable at sea.
Hanging Toiletry Bag
A hanging toiletry bag is a must-have for keeping your bathroom essentials organized and easily accessible on a cruise. It frees up precious counter space, and when it hangs up, everything’s right where you need it—no digging through drawers or bags, just grab and go!
Silicone containers
Silicone toiletry containers are a cruise essential—they’re leak-proof, durable, and easy to refill. These flexible little bottles save space, comply with travel regulations, and keep your favorite products safe without worrying about spills in your luggage.
Silicone covers
Silicone covers are a must for any cruise or travel adventure. They protect your toiletries from leaks and spills, and their flexible design makes them super easy to squeeze out just the right amount of product. Plus, they’re reusable and eco-friendly, so you can feel good about packing smart and sustainable!
Makeup Bag
A makeup bag is a must-have for keeping your beauty essentials organized and easily accessible while traveling. Whether you're heading out for a day of sightseeing or getting ready for dinner onboard, a compact makeup bag ensures your products stay in place and you stay looking fresh without the clutter.
Travel Mirror
While cruise cabins usually have mirros, they're not always in convenient places. A compact travel mirror gives you the flexibility to get ready anywhere in your room, whether it’s for makeup or grooming. Lightweight and easy to pack, it’s a small item that makes a big difference in your prep routine!
Wrinkle Releaser Spray
Cruise cabins are small, and irons are usually a no-go. That's where wrinkle releaser spray comes in. It's a compact, hassle-free solution to smooth out clothes after unpacking. Just spray, smooth, and you're good to go—no stress, no wrinkles. It’s an easy way to keep your outfits looking fresh for everything from formal dinners to shore excursions. Simple, effective, and cruise-ready!
Stain Remover
Accidents happen, especially when you're enjoying meals and activities on a cruise. A small bottle of stain remover is a lifesaver for tackling spills or stains on the go.
Poo-Pourri Toilet Spray
Cruise ship bathrooms are compact, and odors can linger. A small bottle of toilet spray is a simple, discreet solution to keep things fresh. It’s easy to pack and ensures you can enjoy your cabin without worrying about unwanted smells.
Travel Razor
A small travel razor is a must-have for your cruise—it's compact, easy to pack, and perfect for quick touch-ups before heading to dinner or exploring the port.
When it comes to travel, it’s the little things that can make your trip smoother, more comfortable, and a whole lot more fun.
Travel Backpack
Even though cruiser’s luggage will be delivered on embarkation day, cruisers should pack a backpack or travel bag with essentials, valuables, and anything they’ll need during the first few hours on board while they don’t have access to their checked bags.
Carry-on Bag
There are all kinds of carry-on bags to choose from, but lightweight sets with spinner wheels make getting on and off the ship so much easier. Duffel bags can work too, though they’re not quite as convenient to haul around.
Packing Cubes
Cruise cabins are generally quite compact, so using packing cubes can help keep things tidy and organized. Packing cubes can also help maximize space in your suitcase and make packing more efficient.
Security Pouch
A security pouch is a game-changer for travel days—worn under your clothes, it keeps your passport, cash, and cards safe and out of sight. It’s lightweight, discreet, and gives you peace of mind while you explore worry-free.
Luggage Set
Having a good luggage set is key for a smooth cruise experience—think easy organization, stress-free boarding, and hassle-free disembarkation. Durable, easy-to-roll bags make navigating terminals and tight cabin spaces so much easier, leaving you more time to relax and enjoy the adventure.
Luggage Tags
Luggage tags might seem like a small detail, but on a cruise, they’re a must! They help the crew get your bags to the right stateroom quickly and efficiently—no mix-ups, no delays. Buying your own luggage tags also ensure they won't break or fall off, letting you sail into vacation mode stress-free.
Luggage Straps
Luggage straps are a simple but smart addition to your cruise gear—they add an extra layer of security to keep your bags from popping open in transit and make your suitcase easier to spot among a sea of lookalikes. You can often find luggae tags and straps being sold together.
Shoe Covers
If you're traveling somewhere with messy weather or planning outdoor excursions—think muddy trails, rocky beaches, or rainy ports—wearable shoe covers can protect your footwear from dirt and water. They're lightweight, easy to pack, and save your favorite shoes from cruise casualties.
Even the smoothest sailings can bring a little wobble—so if you’re prone to motion sickness (or just want to be prepared), pack smart to stay comfortable on board.
Motion sickness patches
Our go-to for longer trips- this little lifesaver provides steady relief when worn behind the ear, making it perfect for keeping nausea at bay during those long travel days. It’s a must-have for smooth sailing!
Ginger chews or capsules
A natural way to settle your stomach and keep those travel jitters in check. Whether it’s from motion sickness or just a bit of unease, ginger chews and mints helps keep you feeling steady without any harsh chemicals.
Acupressure wristbands
No meds needed! These clever devices target specific pressure points to help ease nausea naturally, so you can stay comfortable without relying on any pills. Perfect for travelers who want a more holistic approach to feeling better on the go.
Nausea relief inhalers
Herbal or essential-oil based, these remedies are not only natural but also incredibly effective when you're on the go. Whether you’re cruising, hiking, or exploring new destinations, they offer a quick, soothing solution
Bonine or Dramamine Less Drowsy
Both Bonine and Dramamine Less Drowsy are lifesavers for motion sickness, providing fast relief without nearly as much drowsiness. Take one before your trip and enjoy your cruise or adventure without feeling sluggish.
When cruising with accessibility needs, planning ahead is key — start by letting the cruise line know in advance, then pack the tools and aids that keep you moving comfortably and confidently from ship to shore.
Extended wheelchair handles
Wheelchair aid
Extended wheelchair handles make navigating the cruise ship easier and more comfortable. They provide extra leverage for caregivers, making it smoother to push the chair through tight spaces or over uneven surfaces. Plus, they help reduce strain on your back during long days of exploration on board or during excursions.
Note from user:
I saw first hand how much easier it was for the people pushing my wheelchair to use the taller handles. When going up very steep slopes sometimes they'd have to use the origional handles too, but having both was nice.
Side bag
Walker and wheelchair accessory
A side bag is perfect for keeping your essentials close at hand on a cruise. It easily attaches to the side of your chair or walker, providing quick access to items like your phone, wallet, or medication without having to dig through a larger bag. It’s convenient, secure, and helps keep your hands free!
Note from user:
Being able to have a safe and accessible place to keep my phone, wallet, cruise card, sunglasses, and anything else that I needed to keep on hand was a life saver more than once.
Waterbottle holders
Walker and wheelchair accessory
Staying hydrated is key, and a water bottle holder makes it easy to carry your drink without taking up valuable space. Attached to your chair or walker, it keeps your water bottle within easy reach, so you can sip comfortably while exploring the ship or relaxing on deck.
Note from user:
I had these positioned at the front of my wheelchair. I could keep my cane folded up in one for easy access, and my waterbottle in the other.
Collapsible Cane
A collapsible cane is a practical and space-saving accessory for a cruise. It folds up neatly when not in use, making it easy to store in a bag or backpack. When needed, it provides extra support for walking around the ship or during shore excursions—lightweight, portable, and convenient!
Note from user:
Collapsible Canes are a must have in my opinion, especially if you use a wheelchair but also walk. Being able to fold my cane up and tuck in neatly into a bag or pocket comes in handy.
